Government Says Tourist Accommodation Priority Prior to MotoGP in Mandalika

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno spoke about the authority that prioritizes accommodation for tourists visiting the Mandalika International Street Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, in March 2022 to attend the MotoGP Championship.

The ministry has started coordinating with regional governments, industry players and operators of tourist villages across the province to ensure accommodation is prepared, he noted.

“The MotoGP Championship is our opportunity to innovate in homestay accommodation for tourists, because President Joko Widodo has asked us to develop a fair tourism industry. Therefore, we also support local operators of homestays in operating their establishments, especially homestays in tourist villages, ”Uno noted in his statement to the press in Jakarta on Friday.

The Minister is convinced that the development of new accommodation and the conversion of local houses into rented host families would provide more choices for tourists visiting the Mandalika circuit.

The ministry will operate modes of transport for tourists as a shuttle from their accommodation to the circuit and other locations on Lombok Island, he noted.

The ministry has also worked with industry players for the provision of accommodation facilities, Uno noted, adding that local capsule hotel company Bobobox and natural leisure clothing company Eiger will develop camping accommodation. In the region.

“Hosting the MotoGP Championship not only requires coordination between ministries and government institutions, but also requires collaboration with all stakeholders, including the local community,” said the Minister.

In addition to providing accommodation for tourists, the ministry is committed to strengthening the local economy on Lombok Island and the surrounding islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, he noted. .

The MotoGP championship organized at Mandalika Circuit will also create new job opportunities and boost employment in the local tourism sector and the creative economy, he added.

“We are optimistic that economic activities, human resources and the level of employment in the region will skyrocket, as we expect the MotoGP Championship to provide long-term sustainable benefits to residents,” Uno said.
