Loro Piana’s new collection is a travel guide in disguise

Dreaming of an Italian getaway, but feeling overwhelmed by the seemingly endless possibilities that Europe’s most romantic playground has to offer? Then leave the planning to Loro Piana. With its Women’s Spring Summer 2023 collection, the 98-year-old brand offers a sartorial journey through five breathtaking Italian regions. Beginning in his home region of Piedmont, then meandering leisurely south through Liguria, Tuscany and Puglia, before arriving in Sicily, he culminates in the region’s wild and wondrous Aeolian Islands. Beginning in the twilight of winter and ending in the height of summer, the journey takes viewers through a fluid parade of styles, textures and moods.

There’s also a delightful diversity of fabrics, with cottons, cashmeres, silks and a generous helping of summery linens. The house also offers a fun and evocative glossary of color names, with garments presented in hues ranging from pecan to toasted hazelnut, hay to rope and nougat, rock moss green and navy blue. , red clay, pineapple sorbet and sunny yellow.

Eager to kick off its dream Dolce Vita tour, the brand staged travel-themed pop-ups in downtown Milan at the height of the Fashion Week frenzy. There were flower stalls turned into hydrangea workshops, in collaboration with floral artist Mary Lennox, and a newsstand in Via dei Giardini was turned into a retro-inspired post office. There, passers-by were invited to send in postcards illustrated by artists Emiliano Ponzi, Karolis Strautniekas, Antonietta Marrocchella and David Doran, featuring images of places across the five Italian regions that inspired the collection. The show itself took place at the elegant, newly opened Casa Cipriani hotel, a fitting launching pad for the Italian getaway of your dreams.
